My name is Richard; I am married to Alison and we have two sons. Christopher is 19 and studying at Bournemouth University. Robert is 17 has Severe Learning Difficulties, is non-verbal and very active. I am retired and spend a lot of my time caring for Robert and helping to improve his Living Skills.
I sit on the Partnership Board as a family carer. My son is going through transition to adult services and I am interested in this area for everyone but especially for Robert. I meet a lot of other parents through my son but also because of the groups I am part of. I can think about the things that are important to them and tell people at the Partnership board meetings. In my spare time I am a Governor of Red Lodge (Great Oaks) school, a committee member of Southampton Mencap and a volunteer fundraiser for the Rose Road Association.
Before I retired I spent thirty years in the Navy, two years as security Manager of the Savoy Hotel and fifteen years in financial services.'
